New Online Lead Awareness Training Course
We’re pleased to introduce our latest online course: Lead Awareness Training
Despite bans on its new use, lead is a severe and often hidden hazard left over in the built environment and scrap materials.
If your workers are at risk of lead exposure, the Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2002 (CLAW) applies. Section 11 requires you to provide workers with adequate information, instruction and training covering the health risks of lead exposure and ways it can be managed.
This IIRSM-approved Lead Awareness Training helps meet these core requirements. Designed for frontline staff and supervisors, it explains where lead is found, how exposure happens, and the simple steps to take before, during and after work to reduce risks. This includes decontamination routines and emergency procedures.
Why Is Lead Awareness Training Important?
Construction workers and tradespeople frequently encounter legacy lead in paints, pipe joints, solder and other materials. Lead particles are invisible, tasteless and odourless, so most workers won’t even realise they’ve been exposed. But the health risks are severe.
Extreme lead poisoning can cause permanent damage to the brain, organs and lungs. Low doses have been linked to high blood pressure, kidney disease, fertility problems and cognitive decline, with effects sometimes developing years after exposure.
According to the Health and Safety Executive, around 5,000 workers in Great Britain are currently under medical surveillance for work-related lead exposure. This is at the expense of their employers, who are legally required to provide surveillance funding and arrangements.
Providing this IIRSM-approved Lead Awareness Training course is a low-cost, practical step to protect your workers. It helps trainees identify and manage lead exposure risks, reducing the risk of long-term or severe health effects.
The course also supports training duties under CLAW and demonstrates that your organisation values health, safety and compliance. This evidence can help you avoid the significant costs of enforcement action and project delays, as well as prove eligibility for future contracts.
